Boleigh Farm

David, Deryck and Marion Eddy

Boleigh is a dairy farm which has been in our family for 5 generations. We took over the farm from our father in 1982 and our mother Marion is still very active in the running of the farm. We currently have around 90 Friesian cows and 30 young stock.

Boleigh is situated on the south side of Lamorna valley and has been well documented through history. Folklore has it that a battle was fought at Boleigh in 936AD, and Lamorna Birch painted at Boleigh in the late 1800s.

We farm 125 acres and produce an average of 10,000 gallons of milk a month compared to around 500 gallons a month in our father’s day.

Our cattle graze around the Pipers, which are ancient standing stones. One is 12 ft which is in Higher Fields and the other is 18 ft standing in the Long Stone. There are many beliefs surrounding these stones, but we like to think they mark the seasons, highlighting the longest and shortest days.

Most of our fields have names which were given by the people who broke them. Tippett’s Downs, Coronation, Hardtogetat, Gate Field, The Golden Bonnett – these names keep the history of the place alive.

In our father’s day camping was introduced at Boleigh, and people from all over the world have stayed in Gate Field. However, our cows are our main stay and come first!
