Chapter 10 - Computer skills (or lack of!)
I really wanted to have a computer but I didn’t have a clue. Two years ago I decided to take the plunge!! I had never even touched a key-board and knew, at my age, I had so much to learn and could I really be bothered with it? I went to the Farm Business Centre (FBC) at Long Rock and under the fantastic tuition of Len Olds (no relation), I rapidly learnt the basics, and after a few months was ready to have my own computer. I went out to see Mike at MCC Systems and told him what I wanted; or rather he told me what I needed: and within a few weeks it was all delivered and set up. Mind you, it did take about six hours to do and nearly as long to sort out broadband, but all along the service I have received from MCC has been excellent. The courses at the FBC have been really helpful and my thanks go to Helena, Verity, John and Judith. Even so, I still have a considerable lot to learn but I am enjoying my computer more than I ever thought I would, and would certainly not like to be without it!
