Chapter 13 - Madron Meat Company
Another blow to farming was when Madron Meat Company, an abattoir or slaughterhouse situated on the site of the Old Work House at Madron, closed down this year. For quite some time it had also been a well known butchers’ business. It gave an essential service to many farmers in the far south west, culling old or sick animals. Colin always managed to fit a cow in for slaughter and was always more than helpful on giving advice. We are grateful to him and all the family for the service they have given for many years. Now our cows have to go to Somerset, a lot longer journey than a couple of miles down the road.
