Chapter 21 - The Nicholls Family Reunion at Mulfra Farm 2007
Many years ago Richard and Charlotte Nicholls farmed near Newmill. They had seven daughters: Loveday, Angela, Sylvia, Isabelle, Charlotte, Lily and Rosemary. My mother has talked about them many times and knew of them when she lived at Bosporthennis. All the sisters are still living and every year, around the time of their mothers’ death aged 93 in 1999, they and the extended family meet up in the area for a get together and a picnic. There are now a lot of members of the family so parking became a problem. Rosemary phoned and asked if they could park here and walk up to the Quoit. That was fine by us and we knew one of the sisters, Sylvia, very well. The Sunday morning was dry so they were all able to drive their cars up into the field and have their picnic. I was amazed at how many people I knew. My mother came up for the day and renewed many old acquaintances. One of the sisters at one time lived at Mulfra in the Old Cottage. After their walk we got out as many chairs as we could find and they all came into the garden for a cup of tea. “Did you know so and so?” … “Well I never!” … all the usual phrases used when people have not met for years. My mother was so pleased to have met them all again, it brought back a lot of memories for her. I think the “Nicholls girls” enjoyed their day too. I know we did, and may they have many more reunions!
